Just returned from a same day trip from DEN to ABQ. It was our company's annual profit sharing celebration and I visited one of my offices to celebrate with them. Really fun. I scheduled an out and back same day from Denver to Albuquerque.

Once I got through security in ABQ and wanted to grab a beer (it was bonus day, for heaven's sake), I found out that apparently only the first 16 people who get to the bar can get a seat. There's not nearly enough seats for thirsty people at Sunport... and entrance is moderated like a fancy pants club in Manhattan. Damn... Perhaps I'm not worthy.

When I asked, I learned that the good news is that in six months seating at bars past security will double. I'll make a note of that on the calendar. Ahhh... the land of enchantment manana.

No standing room! They won't let you in!

I would not have expected this in ABQ because I don't think of NM as a state with particularly oppressive alcohol laws. In SLC, PHL/PIT or even STL, this would not have been so surprising.

I thought New Mexico is the state over which US Airways was not allowed to serve alcohol....

I've had alcohol over New Mexico on DL, CO, NW, and TWA.

True but I believe US let their NM liquor license expire or something mundane like that.

Never had a problem drinking OVER NM, but I have found their blue laws pretty draconian. Not Massachusetts-style bad, but a pile of bollocks nonetheless. Then again, anyplace that doesn't pour Cazadores and have Unibroue on tap needs to join the 21st century :D

Okay, Art, I just have to ask... just what does US's serving or not serving alcohol as they fly over NM have to do with the OP's original post about the lack of adequate seating in the bar located in the ABQ airport? I fail to see the connection....

I'm assuming by limiting it they can jack up the prices. Did you notice what they gouge, er I mean charge, for a beer?

    For me in many cases:
    Airport Rant = LAX

Someone made a comment regarding not thinking NM had repressive alcohol laws, and this was a comment with regard to that theory. Nothing more.

I'm assuming this was the new Route 66 Lounge (as opposed to the old Route 66 from the last century)
