Hmm.... I have to disagree with this. You know that booking the non-refundable ticket gets you a lower price. If you want, you can always wait til the last second to book your ticket. If your plans really are that variable, then you obviously have placed a higher value on your time/schedule than on the amount you will save on the ticket.
It would obviously be terrific if we could book $5 refundable fares anywhere we want to go... and if some idiot wants to fund a venture like that, I'd be happy to buy up all his capacity. But let's be realistic.... this is air transportation.... which is supposed to be provide some additional benefits compared to train or bus transportation.
The title is incredibly mislead as well. There's nothing "secret" (or sinister) about it if someone chooses not to use their remaining credit.
The closest thing to "secret" is people not knowing they have credits, but it's not like credits are hidden.
