USAToday: Airlines impose weight limits for carry-on bags

I've had Alitalia and KLM check the weight of my carryon before...AZ required me to check my 20" bag FCO-LHR a few months ago.

I'm not sure many thing about the potential liability if someone does get hurt...interesting lawsuit in the article...getting sued for opening a bin and someone else's bag falling on another passenger..

HA has something like this in place. Probably a good idea after see people needing assistance to lift their carry-ons.

Granted, I can barely reach some of the bins above the center aisle on the 777 the 747...not because I can't lift it, but because I'm short. ;)

I wasn't checked by KLM or Alitalia (or Air France), but I made my carryon look light. :)

Height challenged was not the problem I witnessed, I think someone was transporting gold bars or bowling balls.

Asia-Pacific region is particularly tight on these things. 7kg really isn't a ton of weight if you have any sort of electronics. Thank goodness for iPads, eh?!
