Scammers are sending out official-looking emails that say an airline ticket has been purchased and that a credit card has been charged, in an effort to obtain personal information, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle broadcast partner WXIA-TV.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, Inc. customers (NYSE: DAL) are among the most frequent targets, and the company is warning potential victims of the scam on the company’s website, the station said.

"People will usually have a panic response of some type and will try and click on links that are contained in that email." Paul Royal, Associate Director of the Georgia Tech Information Security Center, told WXIA.

My partner received one of these the other day and he never goes on the DL site whereas I am always on their site and I have not received anything. I had him log into his DL account NOT clicking on any link in the email and there was no itinerary. As a point he doesn't not even have a DL brand cc though I do.

Got mine about 6 weeks ago. Knew immediately it was a scam. Reported as spam. Also BBB here in Tucson sent out an email blast warning of the scam.
