    Is it worth highlighting:

"Smart Saver fares do not permit: earning of Airpoints Dollars with Air New Zealand or other frequent flyer points or miles with any of our partner airlines, however they do earn Status Points".

As with many (non-US) airlines, the cheapest fares do not earn miles. Exceptions to the rule that cheap fares do not earn are
    a) domestic, Tasman and Pacific economy earn status points with Air NZ Airpoints but not (redeemable) airbucks (airpoints dollars)
    b) longhaul economy earn both status points and airbucks with Air NZ Airpoints (only)
    c) premium economy and business always earns in both Airpoints and other programs
