....soft sided so I can fit it in if necessary!

Does the Romowa have hanging storage for shirts and/or a jacket on a hanger. If so, I'll get one.

It would really help if there were some industry standardization here. AC allows a carry-on of 21.5 x 15.5 x 9 inches. Wetjet allows 21 x 15 x 9. UA and AA both allow 22 x 14 x 9. Trouble is that a US made or marketed carry-on bag will be 22 inches long, which is bound to fail the AC test if applied rigorously.

So get an "international" bag. Pretty much all bags marketed as us compliant carry on are oversized in multiple dimensions, due to long term lax enforcement.

Like what Air New Zealand allows? Total linear dimensions of 46.5 inches.

I have a Briggs and Riley with stated dimensions of 22 x 14 x 9, so an inch too long. Apparently it fits. During the last crack down I switched it out for a Samsonite that fits, but my son, who was meeting me there took it. I asked him if they measured it and apparently it fit in the sizer with some effort. I have used it again ever since, but no one has made me put it in the sizer yet. Maybe because it has the SE100K tags on it!

Leaving specific airlines aside, bags marketed as "international carry on" are more likely to be designed to fit most carriers requirements.

However - as mentioned due to lax enforcement manufacturers tend to lie about dimensions - measure inside rather than outside, measure without wheels (which would obviously still need to fit in a sizer) etc. Sizers tend to have some extra size to them, but ymmv. Personally I made the choice to go with a bag that explicitly states interior and exterior (14 x 21 x 8) dimensions, including wheels, and complies with all major carrier requirements. It also slides neatly into CR7 and CR9 overheads which is absolutely fantastic.

...I checked the measurement on my Tumi Continental Carry-On and it is (in cm) 21.5x40x51 which is legal (rule states 23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm)

The nice agent at the YYZ-T1 SE transborder check in put a bright red tag on it without any hesitation.

I guess I need to go shopping for luggage again. Too bad. I really liked my enormous 22 inch bag.

I'd wait until they force you to check your bag because it doesn't meet their 21.5" dimension limit.

Thanks to kindly-minded veteran agent at a nameless station Out There somewhere, I have a lifetime (working life, at least) supply of red tags, to be used as needed. It's all good.

Does anyone know how strictly they're enforcing this these days? I haven't been on a flight since this circus started. Will be departing YEG (which I've found next to nothing about here or on TOBB) and departing YUL in a couple of weeks so any info on either airport would be appreciated.

I have never yet seen anyone gatekeeping the carriage of carry-on bags at YEG. One suspects that AC is finding it as difficult to hire and keep a bag-dragon as seems to be the case for a 'regular bartender' in YEG MLL.

YYZ, on the other hand, seems to be a veritable hothouse of command-and-control. I'd overflow my alloted reply length to list all the ways in which that wretched place is so soul-searingly borked.

I flew YEG-YUL and back two weeks ago and there was no sign of tagging in either place.

Left YEG tonight and the only time I saw the tags was at the checkin desk. The weren't mentioned or used. They did dig up a coloring book to give to the kid though.

No sign of cabin-tagging either at YQU, nor at YEG.

YEG is notably uncrowded except at the Westjet gates, where there is much milling-about (and therefore it is rather difficult to pass on along the main travelling-way).

Maybe folks are saving up for a Labour Day road-trip?

Checked in today in YUL. Didn't see the tags. Did see the bag dragon at the US security area as we walked by. Went to domestic/international security (like the new setup for gates and security in YUL btw) and used the Visa Infinite line. Didn't see any bag dragon there but I was running on 4ish hours of sleep with an 8 year old who didn't want to be helpful so...

I have yet to be pulled aside, so my bags remain red tag free.

The Lev: maybe you have to knit or stitch your own red tags?
