MONTREAL – Air Canada announced Monday its supports for the efforts made by municipal, provincial and federal governments to convince the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to keep its headquarters in Montreal.

A specialized agency of the United Nations, the ICAO was created in 1944 to promote the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation throughout the world.
The agency confirmed last week that the emirate of Qatar made a presentation where it promoted itself as a better location than Montreal for the agency’s headquarters.

“As President of Air Canada, a company that is proud to have its headquarters in Montreal where we have more than 5,000 employees, I invite all business leaders in Montreal to take action to ensure that ICAO’s headquarters remain in this city,” Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada’s president and CEO said in a statement.
