Flights are CNX to BKK to MUC (overnight in MUC) then MUC to YUL and on to YYZ.
Would like to short check bags to YUL, clear customs then carry on bags to YYZ.
Anyone have input to this approach? Have overnighted in MUC previously with no checked baggage issues but have not changed from checked to carry on in YUL. Would you have to clear security again in YUL?
Thanks for any input or tips on this approach.

If you walk the bag through customs at YUL, couldn't you just discretely rip the tag off?

Exactly. Of course the YUL-YYZ flight might never reconcile its checked bag count, but you can always just mention it to the gate agent. IIRC you can now standby for an earlier flight on Rapidair flights for free, so you just need to fake the rationale that you were considering standing by for an earlier flight.

Since YUL will be your port of entry into Canada, you will have to reclaim your luggages once you arrive there. So yes you can just grab it and do whatever you want with it once your done with customs formalities.
    Yes.
