    Advantage Rent A Car (aka Advantage Car Rental) is a relatively small chain, but it is growing. Hertz bought it out of foreclosure in 2009 and seems to be growing the brand. There is not yet any tie-in with Hertz #1 Club, nor any system for even a user profile for quick reservations and quick check out. User experiences from before the foreclosure buyout should probably be mostly ignored, IMO.

    I've been having some mostly good experience with Advantage Car Rental at DEN this past month. During the work week (but not necessarily across weekends), SUV base rates have been about $25/day -- half the price of any of the major brands and about a third the price of Hertz.

    First reservation that I booked was for a Small SUV. I got an AWD Chevy Traverse with 15K miles. XM radio was active.

    Second reservation that I booked was for a Medium SUV since Small was not offered. But upon arrival, I said that I would also be happy with a Small SUV. Again, I got an AWD Chevy Traverse. XM was not active, but this one had heated, leather seats and just 5K miles. (With temps below 0, the heated seats were much appreciated!)

    On both trips, snow was already present and in the forecast for more, so I'm sure that the demand for SUVs ended up quite high. I was pleased with the price, for sure.

    Airport Shuttle
    The airport shuttle drivers were all pleasant and proactive with offering assistance with luggage. The shuttle frequency was a downside, though. I waited for around 15 minutes upon arrival both nights that I flew into DEN. Most of the major chains clearly had more frequent shuttles. Upon returning the car, though, shuttles were waiting and left very soon after I boarded.

    Rental Agents at the Counter
    The first time at the rental counter, there was a bit of a hard sell to buy additional insurance, prepay for gas, etc. Nothing that I couldn't refuse, though. Still, it didn't take too long to complete the process and get into a car. The second time, not as pushy. And this second agent even left the counter to pull my car around to the door for me. (I've never had that happen before except when the lots were empty; not sure if the agents often do this there.)

    Frequent Renter Program / Kickbacks / Perks
    None. No airline miles. No free rental days after X rentals.

    Online Check-in
    They have an online check-in page on their website to let you complete much of the required paperwork online prior to arrival. This is the only thing that I've seen to help speed through check-out. I didn't try this, but it appears to be something that you'd have to fill out each and every time, if you used it.

    Discount Codes
    Yes, but limited. I got discount codes for about 5 - 10% off the already low base rates. According to their website, they don't offer or accept any coupons. Search for codes online.

    Weekend Rentals
    "Generally, rentals picked up beginning Noon on Thursday through Noon Sunday qualify for the weekend rate, provided the rental is kept over a Saturday night. There are, however, some exceptions to the Saturday night keep rule and extra day charges do apply for any rental not returned by end of day Monday."

    I've had similar good luck using Advantage at DEN and always gotten the size SUV I needed for an excellent price.

    Not so much at SLC (which I find very tough to get a deal on an SUV) although Advantage did move me up from the smallest compact I'd ever seen (some kind of Toyota, maybe a Yaris?) to a Ford Focus which worked out fine. The Focus also had XM and it was active.

    Thank you SC Flyer. I will have my first Advantage rental the end of the month in RNO. The price for a mid size SUV was half of what the other companies were charging. Your post give me confidence that all will go well.

    On their website "AAA" can be used for the AAA discount. On other websites such as autoslash.com, use discount code 1805452 for the AAA rate.

    AFAIK, that's the same discount amount as AAA but corresponds to CDP# 3350. Code 1884441 might provide the best discount, and maybe also a free upgrade.

    AAA = 1805452
    ADVAN = 3350
    ADVNWK = 1875232 "ADVANTAGE RAC WKLY DISC PROMO" (5-day minimum)
    1884441 "ARAC UPGRADE" (10% discount + upgrade)

    Yep, I usually avoid Fox and Payless, but Advantage is Hertz.

    I've noticed that practically all of my Hertz CDP's work on the Advantage website too... so if you have a Hertz corporate code you normally use, give it a shot.

    Thanks for the heads up on Advantage. I haven't ever used them before, but just booked a 4 day on Maui, for August. We'll see how it goes
    AAA saved a few $$ over what was already a pretty good rate.

    www.autoslash.com has saved me a little more than the AAA rate on my Advantage rentals. You might wish to try rebooking through them to give them the opportunity to beat your existing reservation's rate. See my post #4 above.

    The ones i've tried have just been in the 5 - 10% range (AAA, a couple credit card codes), but i'm not sure if all Hertz CDP's act the same way on Advantage's website discount-wise or if some are better than others. In particular i'm not sure how negotiated Hertz corporate codes act.

    I've never actually had the opportunity to rent from Advantage, being under-25 I generally do better renting using a National or Hertz CDP/Coupon code which waives the underage fees.
