I think we need a tool like the Google translate toolbar that translates as we place the cursor pointer over the Acronym or any other unfamiliar terms! Any of you hi tech savvy geniuses want to take a crack at it? Thanks...

Not an unknown question around here. We've looked at several variations of how to do this and get stuck at times with one of the solutions which keep in mind that this type of search method could increase server load by a lot as there are possibly thousands of terms that we would be filtering for and every post/message would be being filtered for this. We are looking at other solutions that didn't require parsing of post text would would seem to be best. I do know some of our tech guys are looking at some possibilities of ways to search with word highlighting and js. This way would not require parsing each message/post and would not effect the overall look of the page in a negative way like having many links inside of posts would. We are always concerned that if not properly executed it could lead to a distraction when reading milepoint—so there are many different challenges here rather than a simple cursor point, ask those that have websites integrated with contexual advertising like this. A solution for some can often be viewed as a hinderance for others, but rest assured that this is an active topic here at milepoint if nothing more than an eventual test.

Thanks for bringing it up again, I always like to talk about the things we have in the sand box.

That's easy, have you seen this?

Note: we opted to not be cursor sensitive since it tends to disrupt the reading continuity on milepoint and the fact is that may members do not have a constant need for Glossary or Airport Lookup. Look at our approach and let us know if this is what you were thinking of when starting this thread? We hope it works for you. Cheers.

Unfortunately, this feature had to be taken down because it was causing Firefox and Chrome to crash whenever a term that was not in the dictionary was highlighted :(

I love it too, but came across a term IROPs or IRROPs that I couldn't define (I figured it our by context later). Could that be added to the dictionary?

I just highlighted IRROPs in your post and it showed up fine, worked for IROP, IROPs and IRROP as well. That's actually pretty impressive that it can handle so many cases.

Glad you find it useful and in case you make a typo .... IRRROPs works as well ... though a slightly different definition!
