    Greetings!

As some may be aware, US DM accounts and AA accounts can now be linked. Nothing particularly earth shattering about this as no reciprocal benefits are recognized nor mileage balances combined. One should get the invitation to do so when logging into the respective account. Was able to link mine fairly easily.

Correct. This just notifies them so they can verify and have a database of customer links preparing them for the time in Q2 when the merge is supposed to take place.

Couple things on this. It will reject your combine attempt if your names or birthdate, etc. aren't all the same. For example it rejected my wife since she had her middle initial on one account and her whole middle name on the other.

One other thing. My son has a US Air account but no AA acct. I'm thinking if I could find a sign up offer for AA that it might be an advantage to him to do that. Any thoughts or suggestions? I doubt there are any signup bonuses out there but just wondering.

Not that I know of, but this might be a good time to get him a Citi AA credit card or two for the AAdvantage miles joining bonuses.

If you don't have an AA number, you probably don't have an AA accout to merge with your US Air account. In Q2 when the merger progresses, they'll convert your US Air account to an AA account, as I understand it. No need for you to do anything. This is just for those of us with accounts with both carriers.

Though technically you do not have to do anything, since an account will be created for you, I would just go ahead and sign up for one now and link them. That way you already know what your AA# will be and it'll save you the trouble of any future issues (such as credit card miles not posting to AA#, or partner miles).

I just logged into AA and received the prompt to link, no errors, nothing to it. Every little bit of smooth progress counts!
