  1. Accident rate for western-built jet airliners reaches record low
THE global accident rate for western-built jet airliners fell to a record low of one in five million flights last year as the aviation industry continued to work at keeping flying the safest mode of transportation.
The rate of 0.2 hull losses per million flights was a 46 cent improvement over 2011 and more than 240 members of the International Air transport Association recorded no hull losses on the western-built jets operated by the airlines on which most Australians usually fly.
