AC's new boarding system went live yesterday I am told. I wonder how it is working.
My first flight with that process is today.

It did not go live yesterday. The GA for my flight said it was delayed a week.

I had zone 1 on my BP on Saturday (YYZ-HND, SE sitting in J), but I got to the gate just before final call, so I don't know what happened with the boarding. :)

I had zone 1 on my boarding pass this morning YYC-YYZ but it was the normal boarding procedure.

On a side note, I flew on an AP ticket which I just booked Friday, and the BP showed my status and ACMM in the remarks. Maybe this is old news but I haven't flown on an AP ticket for a few years, so didn't realize that your status shows now.

This is the change at the gate!

They did announce "Zone 1" but I know the guy in front of me was "Zone 2" and they boarded him, so essentially, except for the new signs and the notation on the boarding pass, the experience between this Monday and last Friday hasn't changed at all.

If they board 1&2, then 3,4,5 all together, what's the difference?

Seemed to be working reasonably well at both NRT and YVR today.

I believe that once you throw some real discipline into boarding it does work better.

Interesting observations about the new zoning system. Maybe I should call it 'zoning out', because every place I have boarded in Western Canada so far this year (and I'm standing at nine segments as of this morning) has simply had the same old red/blue stanchion sign with the same old two lines (and the inevitable rush of the gate by the folks in the longer of the two lines). Was utterly bowled-over by that rush in YVR domestic on New Year's morning. :<

On the other hand, low pax loads on the 1st and 2nd have meant that the SD has actually been able to stick around in the front cabin, instead of doing the usual disappearing act into the back cabin to help do the BOB and boozeahol sales.

(on a parenthetical note, have 182 segments scheduled for year-2015 -- wheeeee!)

The YYZ, YUL and EWR signs, at least say "Zones 1 and 2" and "Zones 3, 4 and 5" on them. Now, that enforcement has been spotty, in YUL they didn't separate zones 1 and 2, but there were few elite pax anyway so it wasn't a big deal.

Many of your short haul segments will only get you 250 miles per segment as well. Oh joy!!

Heh. I'm on those planes because nobody's built high-speed rail, and teleportation appears to be unlikely in my lifetime. Points are, to my way of thinking, somewhat of a distraction at best and a fraudulent exercise at worst. Barring the odd J-trip across to New England, there's not much to spend points **on** once one has given Toasterplan appliances as wedding-gifts to all of the grandchildren.

Quite by accident, I suppose, I requal by segments each year; no segment-running involved, just the commutes from hell (commutes from heck, if I snag the odd upgrade and the Johnnie Walker's available).

DH3's okay if you snag a seat in the 'passion-pit' (up front, where rows 13 and 1 face each other. Hands off seat 1D, lads, it's got my name on it. ^_^

FWIW, last week in YFC there was no sign that they'd ever hear of the new procedures. Still old-style boarding. I guess the carrier pigeon hadn't arrived yet. Zones were called in YEG, YUL and YYZ.

And while I think of it, why "zones"? Zone 2 is not a section of the airplane, but a group of people, and Zone 1 is both a section and a group.
