AC to make upgrade priority lists based on fare not status

Discussion in 'Air Canada | Aeroplan' started by guinnessxyz, Jan 15, 2013.  |  Print Topic

  1. A rumour I had heard and more or less confirmed by an AC type is that upgrade lists will be determined by fare paid. Not sure how that will work at the upgrade window but my suspicion is that flights will be R0 all the time when and if that change occurs.

Remember its still a rumour but I think a well founded one.

That's one of the dumber ideas I've ever heard of. What incentive would there be to be SE or E75?

Seems to be following the Lufthansa implementation last year of a similar plan. Perhaps this is a Star Alliance "new standard"?

I can see they may prioritize using a mix of fare codes and status, but this would significantly limit having status. If true, those higher on the Altitude list just got a lead balloon!

Why not? Would be in line with AC's end game to incentivize high fare payers, i.e. their large corporate accounts. It will be interesting how they introduce and spin this one if it materializes.

This employee of a large corporate account is not a "high fare payer" -- we have a lowest-fare rule in effect.
