Hi, everyone! I just hit the SPG Gold status today. So far, what I know is that I need to make 10 stays from now to 12.31.2016 to remain the Gold status. Or make 25 stays from now to 12.31.2016 to upgrade to Platinum status. Am I right?

    Thanks.

Not exactly. If you were upgraded to Gold today, and also assuming that you put in 10 stays to get there, you will be Gold until February 29, 2017 unless you complete 10 stays/25 nights in the calendar year 2016 to extend it beyond that date.

If you did make 10 stays to reach Gold today and you have 15 more stays in this calendar year, you will earn Platinum. The elite expiration date will be the same and you would have to complete 25 stays/50 nights in the 2016 calendar year to extend it.

Thanks. Does it means from today to 12.31.2015 does not count if I stayed in a hotel? Only 1.1.2016 to 12.31.2016 counts?

Careful here. If I understand correctly, all we know is that the OP achieved Gold today, but we don't know the basis. Unless the OP already has 10 stays in 2015, doing 15 more stays will not necessarily earn Platinum. For example, the OP could have earned Gold based on one stay of 25 nights. Adding 15 one-night stays would mean 16 stays and 40 nights at the end of the year, which would still be Gold rather than Platinum.

It depends on what you want to do.

If the goal is to extend status another year then you need to earn it in 2016 to have it in 2017. If the goal is to get higher status for 2016 then you need to earn it in 2015.

Or it could even be the asia's World Mastercard promo where you get Gold till March 2016 based on 1 stay (nights irrelevant). @kevin918, how did you get your Gold status?

It could also be complimentary Gold status through the (at least USA based) AmEx Platinum card with no stays and no nights required.
