Any idea if Delta will offer MQM's up to 10k, again this year for those close to renewing or achieving next medallion level?

Also, can you have others purchase additional MQM's and have them transferred to your account?

Delta has has two programs in the past --

one give money to a certain chairity, get some MQMs or

    just buy them....

and there's always the get the right credit card route....

Given the large number of people on the upgrade list for certain flights, I'm not holding my breath -- we saw about 60 people on the list for a 320 flight out of SLC a few weeks ago and it probably would have been faster to board the non elites first!

I do not suggest holding out hope they'll offer MQMs "for sale." Doing so could likely create a lot of end of year FF stress I'd they choose not to do so. With just under 90 days left in the year, fortunately there's time for planning and looking for MRs.

    :)

Also, I think it's rare to be able to transfer MQMs. I think it's only possible with one of the DL Amex cards...reserve, maybe?

The more they sell MQM's, the more worthless they are. The wait-list for upgrades seems to be longer than the passenger list for the flight (perhaps with the exception of a 747)

By year end I will be 4000 miles short of moving from silver to gold. :( While the achiever in me wants to move up to the next status level, I know that I would be doing exactly what Delta wants me to do. From my perspective, the only real, consistent benefit of gold status would be always having SkyPriority. From what I've seen above, I don't think golds will have a prayer for an upgrade. I also agree with the comment above that purchasing MQM's further dilutes the status levels anyway. So, I think I will save my money and if I "want" SkyPriority or to sit up front, I'll just buy a first class ticket. (Delta's A fares - first specials- are usually not badly priced and pretty frequently available).

With the Reserve card, when you meet a spend threshold, you have IIRC 90 days to decide whether to gift the MQMs (15,000 for $30,000 spend) to yourself or another DL FF account. Doing nothing/not replying means that the MQMs land in your account. However, you cannot do this with initial signup miles.

If you are a SC member, DL is offering a 1500 MQM for a renewal. Another option is Hertz rental (only 250 but all the same...)

Combine the 2 + a weekend away, you should be able to get a GM for next year. The other option, depending on your upcoming travel, let the 24K roll over and and get to GM early next year.

How is 10 CPM a good deal? The worst part about these miles:

Could you not find a MR @ a better rate and still get RDM's with it?!?!

It is only a good deal IMO, if these can take you over the next tier which otherwise you would not do.

I'd rather just spend the $$ on flying. ;) Of course, I've been adding to the rollover pot since June. ;)

For those trying to calc. break even points etc., there should be some non MQMs for using the right credit card.

Depending on how you value them, that would bring the cost for 10k miles down by about 10 per cent.

Yes. I ended out with EQM for two airlines with mine because I used the AAdvantage card. I was only a few hundred from EXP requalification on AA, though, so i'd have done that with another charge anyway. For that matter maybe i'd have done it with DL too, but that is 'maybe' not 'will' and DL SWU's are worth a large amount of money to me, saving me an average of $1500 each.

No time for additional trips this calendar year. I've now given in and purchased my way up to GM :)!

I went for the 10K MQMs even though it's way pricey. Remember the MQMs also add to Million Miler count. Also check out the MQM offer for SkyClub membership. I have both AMEX Platinum and Delta Reserve but I'm thinking about joining to get the MQMs. What do y'all think?

My dad was telling me last night he was going to buy 2500 or 5000MQMs to get to silver medallion and I told him to check his DL plat amex to see if he was near the spending threshold for the 10K MQM bonus (which he seemed clueless about). Guess what... he's at $23K in spend so far this year. Hit $2K more before his Dec 15 close date and boom you're good!

I've been telling him for like 2 months that I bet he's close and should let me look at his Delta stuff so I can help get him some kind of status but we finally looked last night. Thank goodness. He also buys exit row seats a fair amount since he's tall. I was like  LET ME HELP YOU

Worse case scenario is if buys the miles he may wind up with some MQMs that he can carry and might even work his way up to Gold.
