I know there's a core group of AA flyers that aren't happy welcoming those of us that jumped ship from UA.
    I understand your frustration.

I just received this e mail from AA regarding my status match:

Welcome to American Airlines AAdvantage Platinum® membership!

Your new card will arrive by mail in just a few weeks, but in the meantime I want to express my appreciation for your business. We are delighted to recognize you at this elite level and will work hard to ensure your loyalty is rewarded.

Along with your membership comes a range of benefits designed to make your travel more enjoyable. We invite you to review your Benefits Guide online at aa.com/aadvantageplatinum for information to help you make the most of your membership.

As one of our valued elite members, you are especially important to us. Thank you for your support of American Airlines and the AAdvantage® program.

    Yours truly,

I am sort of personna non grata to AA. They have turned down my last three challenge requests, even though the two I did were 3 years apart...Methinks they don't want me.....

Hopefully the stolen UA business will help bring them out of bankruptcy.

Methinks they only want UA people and not any potential refuges from DL. That was the strong impression I got at the one world megaDO launch party.

Mazel Tov for your defection. If it wasn't for the AS Mileage Plan where I can bank everything, I'd be right on board. It isn't bad enough that we've been crapped on by UA, but to have some people tell us basically we're worthless both here and at UA, is really just too much. At least for now, AA recognizes the value of a frequent flyer that has the potential to be a high volume (dollar and frequency) traveler. As for the unhappy AA folks, well, if the refugees don't fly AA much, there will be no competition for your upgrades, and if they do, it will keep your airline healthier as they will eventually have to earn their keep.

    Mazel tov to the OP.

These unhappy AA folks must be elsewhere. This is our first thread in the AA forum on UA's status matching, so no one here has really even made a peep about it.

I was going to "peep" about it, but have been very busy. I am happy to welcome UA flyers to AA, as I am also a UA/CO flier. In my time with AA I have learned that both programs have many positives and negatives, some people who make the change may love AA while others may find their way back to UA. It all depends on travel patterns and needs, right now I am 50K on UA and 65K on AA for the year and will be Explat and 1K next year so the grass is green on both sides.

Why do they not want us, other than that they don't serve MSP in a meaningful way?

I applied for the status match and sent them a screen shot of my united mileage plus account. Is there anything else I need to send them to prove I am 1K?

That should do it, however there can sometimes be a delay between when they get the information and when they get back to you.

The process took less than 2 weeks. I was wondering when I would hear from AA; and then, as if by magic, their e mail arrived with the good news.

So just the screen shot of your name, status and miles should be okay right? I wasn't able to get the status bar included.

I'm still thinking about doing this.

There are WAY too many pages and a lot of hyperbole to wade through on FT, so please forgive my asking questions that may have already been put out there.

As I understand it, this is still going on for UA 1K & GS folks, right?

Are they expecting people to fly 100k by 12/31/12 to retain status through 2013?

What I am also wondering about is the west coast service (I'm in Southern California). Are there any perks (upgrades) on Alaska as an AA EXP? Seems like if I want to go directly north from LA, AS is really my only choice.

Also, if I am flying Eagle to Alaska, connecting in LA, is it possible to stay post-security?

Most of the information related to the match I don't know, the UA folks or the UA forum will probably have a lot more on that aspect.

With regards to the AA info....

EXPs do not get upgrades on AS. Other benefits (baggage, exit row, etc) do apply.

You can transit from the Eagle building via bus to the AS terminal for connections while remaining behind security.

I agree. While I think UA is a better program for my needs, AA is merely different, not worse, in my opinion. Delta is the one I consider worse. (sorry MSPeconomist!) Now that I have my EXP match, I am debating whether it will be worth my while to maintain top status in both programs. I think it might, just barely.

I actually logged in just to check and saw that my status had appeared, and then the email came the next day. I was originally shocked that they would clear the match without notifying me and encouraging me to spend money with them.

Took me just about two weeks. I sent in the paperwork on a Monday and saw the status two weeks later on a Tuesday. Email from AA on Wednesday.
