I do not like this. Its as useless as the CO one. The money does not go to the fare. Its a fee for a service.

Sure it is, but I find it a service I'd be happy to pay for on occasion. I put lots of fares on hold while I juggle schedules, every once in awhile I would be more than happy to pay $10, $20 or more just to reserve the fare. I've 'lost' some very good fares due to holds timing out before I could re-arrange my work/personal schedule. I'm not saying I would use it every time I book, but I would definitely 'risk' some money on certain fares for the convenience of reserving them.

I'd be much more interested in this if it was available for Alaska, Hawaii, and international travel. From what I can tell with some test bookings and the linked sites, it's only for the the other 48 US states. Maybe they'll expand after the test period.....

The link to TB within the link to FT has the TB guru stating that it's for the lower 48 only currently. I tested bookings to LAX and LHR as well. Offered $5 extended hold on LAX, no offer on LHR.....

Missed that in the TB thread. Oh well. If this works out, perhaps they'll consider expanding it to int'l.

Yeah. The fee is too large a percentage for the ticket price.

Now if they let you have this privilege for a fixed annual fee, then maybe I'll consider fessing up for that.

Don't worry. If it sticks, safe to assume AA will roll out this fee paying opportunity system-wide.

Frankly, for pax who travel on non-ref tickets, having this option (for those who don't like it, recall that this is optional) is a nice tool to keep in the arsenal. If you don't need it, just book when you're ready....but a fee to guarantee a fare for a short period seems like an attractive new service to offer...and a good way to add to the bottom line ... Both through the fees and for the incremental tickets it may cause to be booked.

Great summary - I agree completely. I definitely would have booked more flights last year had this option been available for int'l flights. Think I'll send a note to AA...

I wonder how they'd handle a mistake fare like a few months ago when people had holds and all of a sudden the prices skyrocketed when they went to purchase...
