Nothing that hasn't been discussed before here, but AA took delivery today. LINK.

    • Larger overhead bins, which will hold 48 more bags than standard overhead bins on American’s MD-80 aircraft
    • Sculpted sidewalls provide customers with a contemporary feeling of spaciousness and updated window reveals make the windows appear larger
    • Brighter and longer-lasting LED lighting that can be programmed to create different effects during the flight such as a soft blue sky overhead
    • Intuitive placement of switches and call buttons and improved sound quality are innovative features that will enhance the customer experience

I wonder how many more bags this carries versus a traditional 737-800?

I doubt it will be used on a specific route consistently, it'll be cycled through just like all the other planes.

This is a really great question. If you consider the extra capacity of one more rollaway in every bin on one side of the plane, that's pretty significant.

my buddy was invited by AA to be part of this delivery flight because he is one of their biggest 'fans' on facebook. Lucky bugger, got a tour of the Boeing facility and got to be on the delivery flight.

Larger overhead bins?? Yay! I'm so sick of my tiny carry-on being taken at the gate because the bins are full.

I was just on one of these planes yesterday. Pretty nice! A lot more open and has the same style overheads as the wide bodies.

They move 'em around. I was on one recently IAD-LAX. Very nice, felt bigger, and clean. Ok, clean because it was new, but clean nonetheless.

I has a Sky Interior 738 (with Gogo!) on a DFW-FLL flight today. Great deep bins, and the mood lighting is very cool (blue for landing) :)

How was the carry-on baggage loading?

I wish they would ultimately update all 737-823s to this standard (probably at heavy C check time?) instead of merely to the most recent non-BSI standard.

There didn't seem to be any problems in F. However, about halfway through the Y boarding, someone was having problems as the movement of the boarding line stopped for quite a while, and I could make out sounds of bags re-arranged (and then re-arranged again, accompanied by grumbling from those who could see what was happening) before the boarding process resumed.

    + infinity ;)
