How is AA redemption on Alaska airlines? Is it any different if I call or is there availability I can search via KVS or AA or elsewhere.

I see Saver availability on AA and don't see those offerings on Alaska, is the part awards availability relatively limited?

In short, going for an off-peak Europe award on AA and many dates are available on AA and just wondering if they will improve as time approaches on AS (about 5 months out).

To be clear, you're wanting to know about availabilty on AA using AS miles for a trip to Europe? From where to where, specifically, and when?

    Yes.
SJC/OAK/SFO or even LAX to BCN/MAD.

And actually putting that in writing reminds me of another question. Open Jaw and/or stopovers for AS miles on AA (or other partners).

You can certainly check partner AA Award Availability via the KVS Tool: http://Help.KVSTool.com/#AA

As long as you see it at the correct (Standard) Level, then there are no further limitations.

What's the Flight #/Date in question?

If I check Oct 16th there is Off-Peak Saver for...
    AA2466 SFO-DFW
    AA1414 DFW-MIA
    AA68 MIA-MAD

This itinerary is available for 40k miles on AA but doesn't show up on AS as a partner redemption option.

I am searching for RTs, just using the above as an illustration.

It is obvious that I can't redeem AS miles online for this flight, I suppose the question is, are there cases where if I call AS partner desk, even if it is for AA or Delta (which show online), there is other flights available. I assume no, but it just seems odd that AA would only allow very limited access to these awards.

It may be the overnight connection, or it may be something on the return. I'd bet on the overnight connection (> 4 hours, probably counts as a stopover). You're almost always better off calling, but having the flight numbers available will certainly help.

Not accurate. Alaska, when redeeming on partners, has stopover restrictions. That's probably what's catching him here.

There are no additional restrictions with regard to [Award] Availability, but all AS MP programme rules do apply.

All those flights do, in fact, currently have Y Award Availability, but an itinerary like this is unlikely to show-up on AS.com -- you would need to call AS MP to book it:

OFF topic but is there any advantage to booking AS and DL connecting flights with AS versus DL? Do I have to call AS as this is not possible online with AS?

If possible you should include them on the same itinerary - will make things much easier vs. linking itineraries, etc. Other than that, I'd tend to book using the metal carrier's web site.

Only problem is that I'm in Canada and the price is substantially more with all stops on one PNR with DL versus separate DL and AS itineraries.
