According to a recent post by AA on Facebook:

Great news! Military personnel will soon be allowed to travel with up to 5 free checked bags, at no cost. Also, military personnel traveling on orders may continue to have one of their free bags weigh up to 100lbs (126 linear in.), also free of charge- this greatly helps with large duffel bags! More detail coming!

They sent this out on Twitter about 20 min ago, too. I wonder if this is in response to the Delta video drama?

Honestly, I don't know what the existing military baggage amount is off the top of my head anyway....

Either way, military personal have a lot of bags often so this'll be useful to them!

I'm sure this is a direct response to the DL blow-up. In any case, I checked AA's site last night after I heard about this and they allowed 3 bags (first one up to 100lbs) for military.

more likely they'll need to charge EXP's extra fees to cover for the freebies they give the MIL. This is a business with bottom lines to be balanced. :)

I simply don't trust 4 bags worth of stuff to AA and the airport handlers.

Surprised at how proactive they are if this is a response to DL video drama.

Allowing a 5th bag is more of a marketing thing - it's probably less meaningful once you passed the 4th bag limit. none-the-less, good to see that our military personnel are being taken care of (this is the least the airlines can/should do).
