Much of this topic is covered in the existing thread from last week:

    http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/the-uso-promotion-is-baack.36717/

At least one entry on that thread says that no one seems to know of any airline offering the USO promotion other than AA.

Please note, also from that thread, under the I.R.S. regs, one must subtract out the value of the miles (which is specified) from the amount donated, when calculating his or her income-tax deduction.

As for your question on miles for donating to other charities besides USO, yes there are at least three for which one can receive AA miles:

    http://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/earnMiles/beyondTravel/charities/main.jsp

Don't know about other airlines on that question.

    Thanks for the info Keith.
Sorry, a search before I started this thread, did not yield anything.

At one time, I believe the National Foundation for Cancer Research had a similar deal with United and, I think, Delta on "miles for donations". If I find some links, I'll post them here.

    EDITED TO ADD:

Here is the announcement last year about the deal with Delta; and here is the form to get Delta miles.

Here is the form to get United miles.

I don't know if either is still current, but if you are interested, you could contact the National Foundation for Cancer Research (http://www.nfcr.org) and ask.

This deal is available, as every year, from Memorial day to Jul 4. Time to load up on some AA miles with a donation to the USO.

I have been advised that unlike in the past years, this offer is valid for the month of May only, which means next Saturday will be last day to donate for extra AA miles. More info in the thread in the AA forum.
