Forget losing bereavement fares, as reported on TOBB and visible on AA.com, Choice Plus is now $80 o/w and $160 R/T with a few benefit updates.

Choice Essential is now $29 o/w or $58 R/T and no longer includes the $200 change fee waiver.

Dougie saw lost revenue I guess.

    Bleh.

Edited for price accuracy on Choice Essential

For those that buy these fares, sorry for the additional sting. I fly dirt-cheap O fares due to corporate budget restrictions, so I'm not affected. Having the change waiver would be nice, though.

I guess it was good while it lasted. That's a major bummer and no kudos for burying the changes. As a customer who bought these frequently I'd be really pissed if I bought some under the new format and found that the $200 change fee was no longer waived without notification.

It's an enhancement. Now you can prepay the change fee so you don't have to pay it later if you do change. :p

I was looking for flights from SFO-JFK to visit my brother and I came across this. The lowest fare was V for $659 in Choice; Choice Essential was $1,178 (+ $519); Choice Plus was $1,280 (+ $621). Thought it was a little odd......

This happens where the fare is broken. You are getting charged for multiple copies of choice plus - one for each fare component.

    Yup. Feature, not a bug.

This really is irritating. I had booked these fares on several occasions when I wasn't 100% sure of my plans. Now for my trip to San Jose in May it was just $19 less than confirmed First. Most of the "features" that come with these are totally irrelevant to anyone with GLD status or better. Oh boy, an extra checked bag and a premium beverage. Pass.

I had to google whether or not these prices had gone up since I *thought* these were cheaper before. Sometimes I bought these to have some flexibility in case I needed it. Forgeddaboutit!

They have gone up again on some of the flights I frequent. The prices are absurd in most cases.
