After May 31st if you try to issue a miles ticket you will noticed that they will charge more miles to what it looks like to be a tier selection rate. I just confirm with the Social Media Team that these changes will be announced tomorrow morning!

I was trying to issue a ticket to my parents going back to Brazil when I realized they were charging new values. It was frustrating since they already changed the system and did not let us know so we could get ready for this. I guess I'll just have to pay more for my parent's flight!

Sounds like the columns dropped the award miles a week or so ago, and that should have been a sign. But I follow a LOT of bloggers and nobody ever picked it up? Just cost me 15K miles for an August flight I've been sitting on waiting to see if another SAAver award in business would open up. Crap!

No notice at all! Those Citi AA Exec 100k miles credit cards are looking less amazing now...

They already have the new award chart out at https://www.aa.com/i18n/disclaimers/free-ticket-award-chart.jsp.

More crucially, it looks like they axed stopovers at the international gateway, which seems far more drastic than a change to AAnytime awards.

What are you basing the stopover change on? All that page seems to really say is three tiers for standards award and renaming existing saver offpeak/regular into numerical tiers.

Probably because of this post on TOBB:

Granted the poster could be wrong, and I really hope so.

I was just complaining about the US award chart yesterday... it looks like this is what they've been working on, but seems like a lot of changes without any sort of notice.

Just received an email with a great spin on it ;)[IMG]

This wasn't too bad, but I bet we'll see a consolidated increase when the new program is launched

It's probably not a major change this time around because there will be another change once they integrate with U.S. Airways.

It sucks to be the folks who bought miles "on sale" yesterday, only to find them devalued a day later.

The new changes don't seem to be too drastic in the premium categories since they are better compared to UA.

And for the cheap awards it's pretty much unchanged.

    For Example...

AA continues to be in the front of the pack on Saver rates in comparison to UA/DL.

    Code:
Lower 48 to Alaska One Way
    AA Y 12.5K F 25K

    AS Y 12.5K F 25K
    DL Y 12.5K F 25K
    UA Y 17.5K F 30K

    Code:
    Lower 48 to Japan
    AA Y 25K J 50K F 62.5K

    AS Y 25K J 50K F 62.5K
    DL Y 35K J 70K F N/A
    UA Y 35K J 65K F 80K

One really bad change is that Golds will now have to pay for checked bags, even the first one. The only way to avoid those charges is by getting their stupid CC.

    Now that really smells! :(

O.K., so now I have to ask which ones (out of at least 4, probably more) US/AA airline-branded credit cards will allowed for free checked bags? All of them? Less than all of them? And only 1 free checked bag per credit card-holder will be allowed?

And I suspect that there's more pain to come with the "new American Airlines"...

I know that AA Platinum and Executive allow free checked bags, I just don't know how many per PAX on the same itinerary.

Looks like the marriage of US Airways and American is turning out to be a Red Wedding.
