    LINK.

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines has reached a codeshare agreement with Air Tahiti Nui.
The deal was announced Wednesday by Fort Worth-based American and the international airline of Tahiti. The plan still requires U.S. Department of Transportation approval.

The agreement would let American place its code on Air Tahiti Nui flights between Los Angeles International Airport and Papeete Faa’a International Airport.

Air Tahiti Nui seeks to place its code on American flights from Los Angeles to more than 15 U.S. cities, including New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami and Washington D.C.

Waiting for a cheap "celebratory approved-codeshare-agreement" fare to PPT here :D

Interesting development. I wonder what effect, if any, this might have on the TN agreement with Delta. With a market like Tahiti, I'd rather there be more partners than just one, that's for sure. Airfare won't ever be cheap, but more award redemption and accrual options are a good thing.

TN has been a redemption partner for a long time, but at least with the AA code share booked you can earn EQM and RDM now. An improvement for sure.

I didn't realize they were redemption partners already. That's good to know. Still happy to see the improvement of allowing earnings. Little competition from US non-stop to PPT, so the more US-based codeshares, the better, IMO.

Would be nice if LAX-CDG was included, but beggars can't be choosers. :)

Well, if you want that route covered, fly AF and DL instead of AA! :p

Slave to AAdvantage. Plus TN's Y product isn't that great so I hear. Can't be worse than what AF and DL offer though!

Nice! Tahiti has been on my list. I hope with the new profits TN will upgrade their premium cabins because the flight from L.A. is beyond my economy class threshold. Shouldn't be that difficult they only have five planes.:)

A nice step. (I wonder if there are similar plans to code share with Air Pacific for Fiji?)

TN and QF already code share. Too bad it's so hard to use them on an around-the-world fare. It's doable but difficult.

The official AA press release actually mentions that TN will be having a cabin upgrade "by 2013". Exactly what they mean by that I have no idea.

I hope hope hope this somehow means that we will be able to redeem for TN F awards again, although I do realize that A<> B. Still, a girl can dream, right??

I know you don't. I was taunting the AA flyer. I'm pretty much SkyTrapped in ATL. He's pretty much AAdvantage trapped at ORD, so I figure I can give some friendly taunts. :)

I believe that TheBeerHunter's comment was related to the blocking of A space by TN. The AA page on TN says F awards are possible, but for most people who see available A space on TN that call AA, AA states they cannot see it or AAgents will say that F awards on TN are not possible.

Correct, it was the F awards specifically I was referring to. I was among the fortunate who were able to book TN F awards before the blocking started and the flights were superb (even if the F seats aren't the best). I would love to hit Tahiti up again....but would really prefer to do it in F!!

Are F awards still possible, but more limited, or has this been eliminated by TN (e.g., does "most" mean "essentially all?")

I haven't seen anyone post that they've gotten an F award. I used the "mostly" qualifier because I'm not in a position to know for sure the behind the scenes workings and it's possible someone has gotten an F award that I just haven't seen.
