    This is great news. One can use their BA miles/avois points to fly AA all the way down to Ecuador. Not cheap from somewhere like JFK or SEA but I saw some good redemption value from MIA on LAN, and now if you live in the southern US, the options are even better without breaching the 1 partner rule.

    This is good news.. but I think on everyone's mind is still what is going to happen to LAN, do they stay in OW or mover to *A. I guess it will not be possible for them to still stay in separate alliances.

    It's 99% sure they'll stick with OW given the restrictions the Chilean regulatory commission placed on them upon approving the merger. Anything can happen, of course, but unless *A takes some pretty drastic measures and drops some new airlines recently added, they can't legally go with them. Lots of other threads about it in both the OW and LAN forums with lots of speculation.
