I was on AA flight 3944 JFK-BWI today and am still confused how a 2.5 hour delay can be termed an on time departure...even when the plane doesn't push from the gate. Granted, it was weather related, but they didn't even push from the gate for over an hour after departure, then 1.5 hours on the tarmac...lovely day that began at LAX at 6:30am...

During the hour at the gate were the doors closed?

Where are you seeing an on-time departure? I just went to http://www.aa.com/gatesTimesSubmit.do , clicked "yesterday" (since it is Wednesday as I am writing this), and then entered "3944." It shows departure scheduled at 5:59 p.m. but actual at 7:52. It also shows arrival in Baltimore at 8:50 p.m. instead of the scheduled 7:20.

If the door closed and the jet bridge pulled back, it's an on time departure, I believe. In other words, it's gate time, not runway time, that determines departure (vs. runway time being the marker for arrival time, not gate time). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Where did that plane go for 12 hours!? Mid-air refueling, or is AA flying a 777 between JFK-BWI.... :D

Yes...but didn't push...of course they closed the door...to TRAP the passengers and take the on time departure.
