My sister in law is on a flight leaving in 5 minutes from NRT to JFK on NH. A big man that sounded to her to be American threatened the GA into giving him an upgrade. Said that as a man with cancer he deserves an upgrade or he would write on the internet that an airline would deny a dying man an upgrade. He was loud and obnoxious. They gave him the upgrade. He went back to his wife bragging how he did it. Smh. This world is full of nasty people. She has the unfortunate pleasure of sitting next to him on the flight.

Well there are few other things we could take away from this
    a) He could be Canadian ( unless we assume there are no nasty Canadians) your sister-in-law wouldn't be able to tell the accents apart.:)
    b) There are people (and organizations) who haven't mastered the art of standing up to blackmail. which in turn only encourages such behavior:rolleyes:.

There are mean people everywhere, but it's much easier to believe an American is rude than a Canadian. I tried to get boyfriend and I upgraded yesterday using his birthday as leverage (it WAS actually his birthday - and therefore I have no shame about it) but alas, it didn't work.

If he doesn't already have cancer, I'm sure good ol' karma will come around eventually.

I ran in to the one loud, obnoxious Canadian that proves the rule. It was the result of a cancelled Air Canada flight at CDG, which I admit can be frustrating, but I was mortified at the thought of all those Parisians assuming he was American. If he had just calmed down he might have realized that other side of the coin was an extra day in Paris with a free hotel room. It could have been worse. ;-)

Not a good idea, on many flights that we are on..

Most have people going to USCAP Conventions...

Would not take long to see if he really had a problem...

From a commercial perspective one should not upgrade this "dying" man. His future value to the airline is clearly very low..........
