My wife (UA Silver) is flying through Frankfurt to Africa and has a roughly nine hour layover. She's arriving in United Business class and departing in economy, so no LH lounge access unless I can get the economy portion of the ticket bumped to business class (unlikely).

Looking at the Fraport website, there's a paid lounge outside security in Terminal 1 (Luxx lounge). Has anyone checked this place out?

If it was me, I'd check my rollaboard with the luggage storage place and head to town, but she probably doesn't want to do that (been there, done that).

How much do day rooms at the Sheraton or the Hilton/Hilton Garden Inn go for typically?

Quick online search of Hilton hotels near FRA:
Hilton Garden Inn FRA - 189 Euros
Hilton FRA Hotel - 359 Euros

Online search should likewise provide rates for the Sheraton...

The concept of 'day rates" is not one that I am acquainted with in my 8+ years as a HHonors member...

Well, trust me (or if not me, this article :) ) - they do exist. And this site specializes on pricing and booking them:

I see...It is a third party offering, which is why I was not aware of the concept , as I'd vowed a few years ago never to book stays through such 3rd party sites. I had booked a stay using such a site for, coincidentally, Hilton FRA for about half the rate published on the Hilton website, but after the stay, I got zero, zilch, HHonors points even on incidentals. Do you know if stays booked through this particular site, whose existence may be of use to others, would earn you loyalty points?

    Come to MilePoint and learn!;)

Day rates by themselves are not a third party offering. You can book them directly with the hotel.

I have no idea if stays booked through this site would earn anything. Just discovered it 59 mins ago. If I had to guess, I wold say no. I would probably call the hotel directly if I was seriously considering to book such a stay, but even then I am not sure if you'd get stay credit. Looking at the price for the FRA Sheraton I doubt that my wife is interested.

That is what I'd do. I'd find out the official info from the hotel directly,,,

Here is a FT thread about earning credit. Inconclusive, I'd say. But not really a concern for me anyway. The approach suggested in the thread to find day rates doesn't seem to work with the current Hilton website. "Unknown error".

So... About the Luxx Lounge at FRA... Anyone here tried it?

I have used the Luxx Lounge. It accepts Priority Pass. It's located outside security on a mezzanine above the check-in counters between halls B and C. My recollection is that it is fairly typical of a contract lounge. Various seating, none of which would be comfortable for sleeping. Free drinks. Very limited food selection. I don't believe there were any showers or dayrooms. On the whole it was inferior to the LH Senator or even LH Business lounges. However if you are in the area and don't have a boarding pass, it is a place you can spend some time and have some drinks if you have Priority Pass.

I don't think I'd want to spend 7 hours there, however. And sometimes paid admissions have a limit to the number of hours you can stay. Too bad your wife isn't *G as the LH lounges are excellent.

Back in the old days, I used to enjoy a few hours of Blackjack at the FRA Casino. Very small... not fancy or luxurious, but it was a decent game of BJ. Dont know if its still around...?
