What is the likelihood that the 777's 2-5-2 configuration I'm seeing on UA966 and 967 for flights in late April is really going to stay that way (i.e. not go to 3-3-3)?

They are converting several more of the UA 772s to the new config by the end of the year, bringing the total number in that layout to more than half. Beyond that, betting on which config will be on a specific route is quite uncertain.

Even on routes that do switch to the new configuration, due to equipment swaps, there is always a chance that you might end up with a plane that has the older configuration.

And since you are asking about April of next year, who knows if they will even have that route or will use PMUA 777 equipment.

So a B seat on the aisle can become a middle! And there's no way to know it won't? How can anybody (in coach) know which seat to pick on these planes?

Window seats should stay the same, right (although I know that's probably not what you want to choose! Better than a middle though!)?

It will almost certainly be him and TSMRNE and he has a preference for the 2 seats together when they can arrange such. Can't say I blame him. ;)

If equipment swaps occur then we recommend a second girlfriend to fill the extra seat.

I'll broach that possibility with the missus. If you never hear from me again, you'll know her answer.

You are assuming the OP gets the two or three seat section by the window. What if he, I presume, ends up in the middle section. He finds another female and his GF finds two guys for a fivesome?
