Starting in March, CX will be implementing a new 777-300ER configuration into their fleet known as the 77G according to an email sent from my brother's TA office. This aircraft on the CX system will be refereed to as the 77G which will have premium coach but no F and will debut on the YYZ route starting with 3x weekly around March. It is still a 3-class aircraft; however unlike the current 77A/77D is it is Business/Premium Economy/Economy as oppose to the First/Business/Economy. Here's an example:
    [KVS Availability Tool]
    Code:
HKG Hong Kong Intl HK [VHHH]
YYZ Toronto Pearson Intl ON CA [CYYZ]
    WED 07 Mar 2012

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
    --------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- --------------------------------------------------
    CX 828 HKG 10:45 YYZ 12:35 773 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9
    CX 826 HKG 16:35 YYZ 18:25 773 F4 A4 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L0 V9 S0 N0 Q9 O0

As you can see above the 10:45am flight no longer has F.

And here are the seat maps for the 77G:

    Bugger!
YYZ was where to fly out of North America in F when nothing else was available...

crap is right as i was downgraded from F to J as a result of this. thanks for the heads up BA...miles booking.... just half the trip though. still in F on CX826...will probably have to get this sorted out.

And you wonder why F is going? No paid demand, too many awards. CX has been giving F away on this route since it started flying F configured aircraft to/from YYZ usually as a one-way free upgrade to full C fare payers and corporate accounts. Now the airline is giving comp'd Marco Polo Gold to Canadian Amex Platinum cardholders along with access to discounted premium fares through Amex upmarket travel service.

Uh-oh -- just booked an F redemption from HKG to YYZ on the 1045 flight -- in September (the 10th) of next year. What are the chances that F will be eliminated on that flight? Would we be safer to try to move to the afternoon/evening flight? It would be worth the change fee (using BA miles) to get more certainty.

I would be grateful for any advice/insights.

    Thanks!

ummm...where are people suggesting the reasons for F going? wow, you sound like you really have it out for CX. oh well, at least the J on the 77G will be yet another reason for me to fly on this route versus AC....of course, service levels on CX being remarkably better than the old timers and disgruntled union staff on AC.

I have nothing out for CX. The reality of this market is that it cannot sell much if any F -- witness this is the best award route since CX has surplus capacity -- and has tried everything to fill those seats. Thus any new aircraft flying the route will not get this cabin to maximize C which can be sold, as well as experiment with a Premium Economy class. If CX actually sold enough F, then the aircraft serving this route would have F. I am not defending AC, but you certainly sound like the type of person who cannot abide unions and encourage age discrimination which is rampant at Asian and Middle Eastern airlines.

so what? again, point us to where your "rather" obvious comments about why F is being dropped is being discussed in this thread about the new 77G? ...we are just griping about not being able to redeem for F for this route as often as we used to be able to....not why they should not take it out...come on, when you can get 4 F seats on this flight, it does not take a rocket science major to put 1 and 1 together...oh..and btw, you used to be able to buy enough points to fly F to the far east for $2400 plus (actually, a little less since $CAD2400 would get you about 180,000 BA miles and you only needed 150K...but you probably knew about that loop hole also. sadly, this is no longer the case.

Why so little Y+ seats, I am sure a number of the financially better off Chinese would pay several hundred dollars extra for Y+, just like they do now by paying premium on a direct flight to avoid going through the US
