That aircraft wing is scarily beautiful. Check out her curves!

Yes it's really too bad that only Lufthansa and Korean have orders for the 748i so far. Hopefully as airlines look for replacements for their 747-400s some of them will choose the 748.

A friend of mine will be flying this bird for BA cargo as soon as it comes on line.

Poor sod retired as a 744 Skipper got bored flew odds and sods for cargo and will be back in the right hand seat on this new bird.

  5. Lets hope Boeing manage to get these rolling off the production line without too many delays, unlike the dreamliner.

I think the fact that a lot of it is built using proven technology will help a lot on that front.

By the look of it, they've stretched the bit between door 1 and door 2 and stuck new wings on. Easy. I could have done it in my lock-up with a couple of welder friends. [IMG]

  8. Absolutely, If we were to go back in time...I wonder if the 800 had been tarted around to the airlines a lot earlier, would it have had a major dent in the 380 sales?

The Upper Deck looks vast; not sure it would preserve the intimacy we have come to expect in Club...

Thankfully, while we may not get to fly on one in BA colours, we will see three of these birds in BA colours, operating cargo-only flights from Stansted:

Here is the first example, ready in a partial livery:

Here is the stretch (should be visible when the server recovers from interest in today's launch:

You have friends who are welders? I need to broaden my social horizons!

Everyone's socially mobile now! It's like the swinging sixties. Yeah baby. One of them, Tony, picked up an internship at Tatler for 4 grand at the weekend at some Tory event. He's deligted.

I'm sure he's not the only on who's "delighted". I do hope he's got protection.

If he really is a welder, the poor fellow will be worn out by the end of a week in the Tatler offices.

Ah, but we'll always have some memories of BA flying 748s:

I'm not a BA flyer, but that is a sexy plane. I saw one on the factory floor at SMD II and she's even prettier in person.

I'm glad LH is getting some so that I'll at least have a crack at her at some point.

  22. Tish! The A380 is a leviathan and I love it. Thank God we've bought the thing - even though we are light years behind Air France and Qantas. The AF Long haul crew were lovely.
