CNN: 7-million-mile family shares travel secrets

I know we see plenty on here whose kids have FF accounts! :) A colleague of mine pointed this article out this morning.

I completely agree with being frugal in some areas to afford travel - part of why I drive a less expensive car. It's also why I appreciate my 12 mile commute that typically takes less than 15 minutes. I'd rather the extra $$ go into seeing places! :D

I think the Disbergers' story certainly shows how you can take advantage of promos!

And it essentially started with a MR:

Pretty amazing but traveling 50 hours to spend 30 in Australia is nuts! I guess the mileage earned was worth it.
I wonder if the kids were home-schooled. How do they have the time off to fly 11 times on average per year!

Definitely! We're starting my son early. He turned 6 months last week and has flown to Barbados & South Dakota so far (from NYC). Next month he'll fly business to Singapore. From there we'll travel a bit around SE Asia! At this rate we're going to raise a genius! lol

That's good to hear, excellent that you do that and your son is always fully involved in your travels.

Thanks! It's been great so far. Things are a little slowed down but not too much!

No offense but I would definitely not want a 6 month old with me if I were in business class for 12 hours :).

I could not agree with you more. I am yet to have a flat screen surround-sound entertainment center at home, but my travels have taken me places that only my mind could probably match. And that's because of all the things that I have learnt and the incredible people that I've been fortunate to meet along the way.

Travel, in my opinion, is the best investment one can make in our education as human beings.

So, kudos to the Disbergers and their inspiring story, and to you rwoman, thanks for such a great posting! :)

No offense taken! He has flown coach twice on our lap and has been great on the flights. We are not really worried about flying biz with him. We are looking forward to it! It's not like he can fly alone in coach! :)

I don't think I could take being with my family that much. I travel to get AWAY from them.

Interesting, they state that the family is "middle-class" but do not say what their income is... A manager at a construction company and a nurse probably add up to a bit better than "middle-class". Great story, but I would like a little more perspective.

I flew WAS-MEL for 2 nights a couple of years ago. No big deal except that the UA 747 had "Oceans" on its movie loop and that is all I saw for hours on end
