Was wondering why such a long hold for the following itinerary I set up on 18 June.
Paying with mail in voucher?

Oddly, no. Called to price an itinerary. Asked to apply SWUs to see if they would work. Asked to put on hold and hung up. Assumed it would be midnight next day, but checked AA.com and found the posted date.
Fantastic, that would be a great way to get a longer hold though! And, I'd think, you could always pay some other way in the end.
Although it seems to vary a bit... the past AA will grant (if your request it )10-14 days to have the SWU applied
Usually (and logically) if the reservation date is a substantial period out.
This seems to be the case as a new data point has cropped up. I was checking my flights and discovered this flight had been canceled.
EXP agent was able to capture the same fare and the SWUs. Went ahead an purchased so as not to have that happen again.
