    NIAGARA - A new $500-million development that will create the tallest hotel towers in Canada has been given the green light.

    City council unanimously voted Tuesday night to allow two hotel towers — 60 and 61 storeys — after there was minimal concerns from residents.

    A public meeting was held before the vote. A handful of residents spoke, all of whom support the development.

    Shirley Fisher, a former city councillor, went so far as to call it “one of the nicest proposals I’ve seen.”
    Council did receive five letters of concern prior to Tuesday’s meeting. Among them, the Niagara Parks Commission said it’s concerned about heavy traffic in what it describes as a “scenic processional parkway.”
