I have 5000 AA miles in an orphan account.
Any options to use them ?
If you have another (active) AA account, you can merge them. Otherwise, order magazine subscriptions or donate to charity.
Will get you a tix between islands in Hawaii
or share them with a friend or family member who needs to top off their account for an award.
yes there is a cost but if it gets someone to an award....
When are your miles going to expire?
Do you have miles in a US Airways account? If the two merge, the account balances would merge. That wouldn't be any time soon, but if you have time and don't find a better use for them, it's perhaps worth considering.
And whilst the redemption rate is awful, if you just want rid of them, cash them in on points.com for an Amazon, Starbucks etc. vouchers. Always better than loosing them...
It's so easy to keep miles alive nowadays though. AAdvantage dining could save so many people the heartburn of losing their miles due to inactivity.
I do agree though, if you don't see any use for them, cash them in for something useful.
