Sometimes the spam from Citi is actually useful... like this email that I almost deleted:

    Enroll by 6/26/2012 to Earn:

50% more American Airlines AAdvantage® miles*

Enroll Now Click the "Enroll Now" button or call 1-877-564-5813. Your invitation number is: [redacted]

The best part about your Citi® / AAdvantage® card? When you use it, your AAdvantage® miles can add up faster than ever.

Click the "Enroll Now"** button to accept this offer and earn an additional 0.5 AAdvantage® mile for every $1 spent on eligible purchases until 8/31/12. That's 50% more AAdvantage® miles on what you buy.** Get packing!

Maybe they heard somewhere that I just got the UA Club VISA from Chase that gives me 1.5 miles per dollar? ;)

Saw this in my inbox too. Thought about it for a few minutes but it was not enough to switch my spend back, however, it did prompt me to call Citi's retention dept, who gave me an $85 statement credit, and 1500 miles a month for 16 months with $750 spend each month. Might be worth 5 minutes to make a call to Citi and see about a retention offer ;)

Quick FYI... there are 3 Citi retention offers being offered right now, and they will try to offer you the other two first, so you may have to "play hard to get" to be offered the the third one (mentioned above).

haven't gotten the invite yet. Does this apply to purchases through their shopping mall, where say a 5 miles per dollar spend, now becomes 7.5?

The way I read the offer, it was 50% bonus on the credit card spend. So in your example of 5 miles per dollar, it would translate to 6.5 miles per dollar (1 pt for base spend on cc + .5 bonus points on the cc spend + 5 points from shopping mall)

I made the mistake of accepting 750 extra miles per month. When I called back to try and change it, they wouldn't even let me talk to the dept. as I had already accepted an offer. I then called on one of my other citicards and they offered me triple miles up to 10,000 miles. The representative stated that she knew of the other offer, but it was not available at present. I told her I will call back in a few days.

    Retention Offer Summary:

    2. $85 credit and 1500/month bonus minimum $750/mo spent
    3. 3 miles/dolar upto 10,000 miles

Is offer #2 the best retention offer?

Not sure that I'd call my 50% offer a retention offer. It came in an unsolicited email, like several others for 25% (meh!) and 50% offers in the past (also via email or postcard). Basically, they know I am not using the card much and are encouraging me to move spend to it. Which historically worked to some degree during the promo period but then it always went back into the safe. But I think it's time to call the retention line.

There was a link in the email, but it won't help you without the invitation number in the email.

Givem Chase! I dumped those whacks after having the BA VISA for 12 years. Chase fees drive me crazy.

Those jerks cancelled all of my bank accounts and credit cards due to me depositing coins from the mint back in the day when we could buy them and get miles.

Why? Did you have to call retention? What made them reward you, spending level???
