A FORMER Jetstar employee has launched a $50,000 unfair dismissal action against the airline amid claims a manager told him it was a prerequisite for cabin crew staff to be gay.

Michael Galvin, who is gay, said the manager also allegedly told him his voice was not masculine enough for dealing with customers.

I think this story loses something in the reporting...

Sounds like a pretty straightforward case of a plausible claim, an official denial, and a soon-to-be quiet settlement.

Does anyone else think that this particular quote is very problematic?!

"He told me, 'You realise it's a prerequisite being gay to be cabin crew'"

I agree it's problematic; but it may or may not have been said, and anyway is now the (part) cause of a lawsuit. I don't think anyone is going to defend it.
