I just completed a TR and was hit by the 5 pic rule.

Can this be changed as a lot of trip reports are photo heavy?

A workaround is that you can split up the TR into consecutive posts.

Five pictures can certainly be a satisfying number:

This is what I ended up doing over on the TR forum so it is now 5 posts rather than 1

Did you just post random pictures from the Interwebs? I mean, you could do much better than that.

Actually, I got a spam letter from a marriage agency and took the pictures from their website.

Not for me. I am never just "a bit odd". I pride myself on being majorly odd.

I am torn about the 5-pic limit.

From one side, it sucks, especially since you have to wait 20 seconds between consecutive posts.

From the other side, it allows padding the post count when making a trip report [IMG]

It’s fairly common, though luckily smilies don’t count to the limit, as can sometimes happen.

That's not true. I took a shower last month (after getting a warning from the Israeli Ministry of Health).

Who needs more than one pic?

  17. I have no problem splitting my TR's into separate posts but I like to split by flight. 5 pics is a little restrictive. Perhaps a 10 pic limit would assist?

I can see some benefit to this, it could force some trip reporters to break their reports up into smaller pieces which at least I would prefer to one massive post.

While I agree this is good and often happens on FT by the OP posting one then putting X amount of replies to fill in as they go. The 20 second rule could get in the way of this.

I find it quite restrictive- I was attempting to post a link to some hotel websites- and the way the code had been written (for Firmdale hotels)- I had to piece it together myself as I there were six "images". I don't know if it creates undue strain on the servers of MP (I don't think so)- but at least a 10 image limit would be better?

Would it be an idea to leave the 5 picture rule untouched in general, but change it only in the trip report forum? I guess a number of around 20 pictures per post should be fine, so the trip reporters need to select the good pictures and don't flood us.
Maybe there could also be a small marker in the thread title, that tells us, that there are a lot of pictures in a certain thread...
    Just my 2 cents

I just discovered the 5 pic rule [IMG] while attempting to post 10 smilies.

    I don't like it

Lots of trip reports go into Destination Travel nowadays, so that would have to be changed too.

Even worse than the 5 picture rule is the limit of 30 seconds between posts. So you have written a trip report, and then have to post it in portions and wait for the stupid time limit to elapse. Would be nice if the 30 second limit would only apply to offtopic forums.

One good reason for the 5-picture rule is to limit the number of pictures per forum page, so that pages don't take forever to load and don't cause an "out of memory" on mobile devices. But together with the time limit between posts, it is a torture.
