Hi. I got in on the mistake fare yesterday. I should've booked an extra day or two, but didn't. So, I'll have four nights in Israel - which is really 3 days since I arrive on a sunday evening and leave on a thursday morning. I've never been there before.

Should I visit Jerusalem or Tel Aviv - should I split my time between the two (i.e. two nights and two nights), or should I base myself in one, and just do a day trip to the other? Hotel suggestions?

Also, I'd like to avoid the really high cost of taxis, but I'm told that buses are to be avoided and trains are not great.

I've been to Tel Aviv for business a few times. I didn't think there was all that much to do in Tel Aviv.

I'd go to Jerusalem if I had the choice.

I would say a worthwhile 3-4 days (or even 1-2 days) is possible in most destinations, as long as the infrastructure is up to it (so no willderness adventures, safaris, etc.). This goes double for visiting cities/towns. Of course you won't see everything (you never will) but you'll get a taste you might not otherwise get.

katstarr, what did you end up doing? My trip is one of the last ones booked. ;) Our first trip was in 2000.

If you didn't depart yet, maybe we can meet up.

Dan, I did go and it was wonderful. Since El Al, when it decided to honor the tickets, allowed them to be changed a little, I made the tickets non-stops, and the trip took place perfectly over 7 nights during presidents week. Of course we could have used even more time, but 6 nights was great. we stayed 2 nights Jerusalem (Prima Royale), 1 night Dead Sea (Le Meridien), and 3 nights Tel Aviv (Orchid Park Plaza). I've written a few blogs about it.....
