I was supposed to fly out Edmonton last night, but the pilot was sick and so we have a 24 hour delay. Of course I looked at the flight schedule before we made the 45 minute drive to the airport, only to get there and be told it was cancelled. So we drove back and then proceeded to try to cancel our first night hotel (so far unsuccessfully) and change our rental car in Iceland. Given the parking fees, lost hotel night, driving for 1.5 hours, etc., it was a bad start to the trip. Is asking for some kind of compensation reasonable at the beginning of a trip at your home airport?
