Will be much hard to get 100 stars this time around.

Wow, they really closed some of the loopholes. I don't think I can even get the first tier of 50 stars.

^ This means that the well-timed SFO-JFK-SFO x5 MR that I did last year will probably only count for 3 stars (since it was all on one airline)
^ This looks like a loophole-close for what we all did last year

Not quite as lucrative as last year. If I read it right, it looks like flights need to be both booked and flown during the promotion period to count. 20k points would sure be nice, so I'll see what I can do. Might be time to stock the cupboards with bunch of short trips to my neighborhood Sobeys and Rexall (both a block away, so an easy trip).

Drat! I have a flight already booked for April. Maybe I should cancel and rebook.

    Hmmmm ...
    • 4x5 = 20 (maybe 30) for AC flights, my flight next week won't count
    • 2x5 = 20 for Hilton
    • 10x2 = 20 for Esso (buying gas in $10 increments)
    • 3x3 = 9 for Park-n-Fly instead of the terminal
That's only 69. I'd need to do lots of Sobey's visits or Hilton mattress runs to get another 31 points. Maybe I'll settle for the 2000 points ...

100 stars is going to be difficult unless there is a lot of booking and flying in the next month. I won't make it. And 2000 miles isn't worth the all-out effort to change my shopping behaviour. If I make it, I make it, but I won't sweat it.

It does look a bit more doable if you have several Aeroplan credit cards.

It was my impression when I finished university there would be no more math. But I'm pretty sure that 2x5 is still 10 :D

Damn! And me with a math degree, too! :(

Actually 20 is still the correct answer, the question was supposed to be 4x5!

Oh yes, there are 9 points for social media activities, too. I should be able to get the 2K fairly easily.

I'm wondering how they will calculate the brackets of $1000 in spending for the financial cards. It can't very be the spending for the 35 days of the promotion, but the spending when your card posts? Which in my case is mid month, so you don't really have that much time to concentrate your spending.

I was wondering the same thing. Also wondering if the aeroplan estore is considered one merchant no matter which store you buy from, or is each store considered a separate merchant.

I would assume the entire store is a single merchant, just like all Esso stations are considered to be a single merchant.

That would be a bummer. I happen to be out of the country and the only way I can shop is online.

My understanding is each merchant is separate. I base this assumption from the terms and conditions which imply some limitations: 1. Ebay is excluded. and 2. The Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic are considered as one merchant.

If everything in the eStore was one merchant, you wouldn't have to have exclusions such as the above.

That's basically what I'm doing. The only extra things I'm doing are (1) stopping at Esso to put in $10 each day, and (2) parking at Park-n-Fly. I won't make 100 stars anyway, I should get 50 this way, but if it doesn't happen, the world won't end.

My goal is 32 days of $10 days at Esso mixed in with some flights. At day 9, and I'm driving the gas off as fast I pump it in. Good thing there's an Esso on the way to work or this would be tedious.

I've done a few Uniprix transactions, but they haven't posted. And I'm not very confident of the financial starts that will post sometime in January. I prefer to know I have my 100 stars before its over. The rest of mine will be AC flights and a few star alliance partners.

I notice from digging in the terms and conditions that there's 1 star for registering via SMS. And it seems to be only 5 stars for holding an Aeroplan card, even if you have both Visa and Amex. And the star alliance 3 stars that people were saying was per flight (and not per segment like AC) are actually per alliance PARTNER, regardless of flights or segments.

I should still end with a comfortable 110 just on gas and flights.

I noticed today that twice now, I've had Sobeys purchases from different days, and they've been credited in my Aeroplan as the same day. Not sure why this has happened, the points usually credit as the day of the spend. Anyone else noticed this. Hopefully I'll still get the two days worth of stars.
