    Per whkento's request, I will start a JGC run routing help thread here. This is not for myself as I am a JGC member already. But thanks to the recent changes on the JAL Global Club program, a couple of people have asked me what the are cheapest ways to attain JGC. I am starting this thread so everyone can benefit from the discussion (and save me some time [IMG])

    Below are something to consider
    1. If you live in Japan, apply for JALCard so you can earn 10-20% more FOPs during the campaign period
    2. No, JAL is not running (at least haven't announced) any kind of double FOPs promotion. The only bonus FOP campaigns are the JALCard one and the regular 400 FOPs bonus on certain fares.
    3. The quickest way probably is to do a domestic mileage run. A short flight e.g. HND-ITM can earn as much as 1072 FOPs if you fly in Y (100% mileage rate) but this will not earn you the most miles.
    4. International mileage run will give you better miles/yen but it takes a much longer time to complete and might cost more because of the hotel cost.

    So here is the challenge question, how to obtain JMB Sapphire with minimum cost? Anyone?

    See post #2 and #3 for cheapest routes for ex-Japan and ex-overseas MPers. By the way, no prize for the winners [IMG]

    I'm not sure if this is the cheapest yet, but one way is.
    Ticket #1 70000yen
    Ticket #2 85000yen
    Ticket #3 51000yen
    Ticket #4 65000yen
    Class J upgrades 14000 yen (14 domestic sectors total)
    Plus 2 hotel nights cost is right under 30man.... (including hotels)

    Ticket #1 ITM-HND-SIN
    Ticket #2 SIN-HND-OKA
    Ticket #3 OKA-HND-OKA-HND-OKA-HND
    Ticket #4 HND-OKA-HND-OKA-HND-OKA
    Ticket #2 OKA-HND-SIN
    Ticket #1 SIN-NRT-ITM

    Flying would be something like this.
    Day 1 ITM-HND-SIN
    Hotel = Redeye
    Day 2 Early arrival into SIN 5-6am enjoy the day in SIN / Go to JAL office to get Yokoso and Visit Japan
    Day 2 Night SIN-HND
    Hotel = Redeye
    Day 3 HND-OKA-HND-OKA-HND
    First hotel night
    Day 4 HND-OKA-HND-OKA-HND
    Second hotel night
    Day 5 HND-OKA-HND-OKA-HND-SIN
    Hotel = Redeye
    Day 6 SIN-NRT-ITM

    I would never recommend someone doing this (as I'm not sure if you will be functional after the trip or not)

    Mileage is calculated as follows
    SIN-HND 3182 with JAL Card 20% bonus and 400 bonus FOP
    OKA-HND 2997 with JAL Card 20% bonus Class J upgrade and 400 bonus FOP
    ITM-HND/NRT 1139 with JAL Card 20% bonus Class J upgrade and 400 bonus FOP

    Grand total 50970 in one week of ultra flying.

    That's a good start. You could recommend those who aren't functional to begin with this routing (hint: those got messed up by his/her SFC run) :p Simon are you listening? ;)

    I think that number needs an extra 0 to become 300,000 yen.

    I agree we need to allow for breaks in-between routes and I think maybe 40+ hours of continuous flying should be avoided like the plague.

    Not really. They usually lower the base fare for the cheapest ticket to offset some of the increase. But for the more expensive ones, i.e. the ones I buy, they don't lower the base fare as much :(

    In other words, upgradable fares will go up and discount fares will only go up a little?

    JGC Crystal = uber gayness for someone so obsessed with JAL. It's like a complete joke and you would be at least JGC Premier to show your true loyalty even if that means flying another carrier in order to achieve it. You are after all living in the land of MR.

    You look at flying another OneWorld partner as having an affair or something. It's not that bad and trust me, if you send a letter to the JAL CEO in advance and let him know you will be flying another partner, I am sure it will clear the air.

    Both Fumio and I would be happy to assist you (moral support) in taking the plunge into trying out different airlines with the OW alliance.

    Not going to happen. I would rather spend the money on JAL and get less in return.
