A 16 year old boy was found wandering around the tarmac at the Kahalui (Maui) Airport today. He was a stowaway in the wheel well of Hawaiian Airlines flight 45 from San Jose.

Since the plane flew at 38000 feet, it is no surprise that he reported he was unconscious much of the time. He's very lucky to have survived. He is currently in custody of child protective services.

Soooo what I wonder is how bad security is a SJC to allow a 16 year old that close to the plane? Maybe he was a just upset they wouldn't let him into the Priority Pass Lounge at SJC? It's a good thing he didn't wonder onto one of the ANA flights there to Japan.

Close does not cover it. He "boarded" the plane undetected. It could have been worse....

New information describes how the teen breached security around 1 a.m. and slept in the plane until its 8 a.m. departure.

This article describes San Jose Airport's security systems.

    No comment necessary...

He was wanted by local officials because he didn't fill out his Ag form.

My favorite line from the story, and I might be off a word or 2: "The boy was found wandering...disoriented and having trouble hearing, but otherwise OK." So brain damage, secondary to hypoxia/anoxia is 'otherwise OK'?
