    By the way, for U.S. residents on here trying to get this right as far as figuring charitable tax deductions: when you get deep into the online donation process on this one it finally gives you the amount that is not deductible for tax purposes (because you get miles in return), and thus, when you subtract it out, you will know the amount you can deduct. The numbers are pretty standard, but are, for example, more advantageous for the taxpayer than using the per-mile "exchange rate" for Buy AA Miles. Anyway, here are the numbers the U.S.O. gives:

    "For charitable deduction purposes, each mile is valued at 2.75 cents per mile if fewer than 6,000 miles are awarded and 2.5 cents per mile if 6,000 or more miles are awarded."
