    An academic who turned 106 was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest person to have completed a round-the-world trip using public transportation systems.

    Saburo Shochi, an educator and professor emeritus at the Fukuoka University of Education, who turned 106 on Thursday arrived at Fukuoka airport, southwestern Japan, that day from a month-long round-the-world lecture tour.

    Shochi, who set out on lecture tours when he was 100, traveled some 56,700 kilometers this time.
