Free and easy HHonors points ~ Finally! It seems like this year has been very slow in the 100% free department.
Hilton is offering 1,000 free HHonors points when you sign up for mobile texts and enter in your Visa card. You will earn 4,000 more bonus points if you make a $100+ purchase with that same Visa card at a U.S. Hilton by June 30th, 2012. When I signed up, it took about 5 minutes. Hat tip to MilesQuest for the info!

    1. Register here.
    2. You will receive a text with a confirmation enrollment code on your mobile phone.
    3. Get 1,000 free bonus points in 6 weeks added to your HHonors account.

This looks peculiar to me. Why would Hilton want credit card information in order to provide you with 1000 points? I'll pass.

    Love freebies. :)

But my cell plan is prepaid, which means each text from Hilton will cost me money. :(

Any ideas on how to get around this?;)

I get enough of the BS text, without even asking. I like HHonors, but why would anyone in their right mind want to invite more BS / Spam for a few lowly rated points?? And a CC # to boot? Humm, I must have set my wackyweed down somewhere around here.

Agreed with most of the above responses. Why would they need our credit card #s???
This does not make any sense.

I don't see anything untoward. They want you to register the CC because you can get another 4K points for using the same card (>$100 spend) at a Hilton property - the point being to encourage a Hilton stay. Visa and the other CC companies often have partner promotions for using your card at such-and-such hotel, etc. Many of us already have a CC on file with Hilton anyway.

The offer page does state one can opt out at anytime. Seems like an easy 1K and I needed to extend my Hilton points anyway so this was handy!

It does when you actually read it -- step 2 :) They send you text messages when you use the VISA card that you registered for a purchase.

Indeed. I registered my BA Visa, which I am about to cancel. A couple small charges will be done before that.

The domain where you actually enter the information is a visa.com domain. I think they are the ones who are actually running this targeted advertisement program and just using HHonors points as a reward for participating.

I did read the rules in the graphic added by the OP. I guess it is no different than adding CCs for Amex Small Biz or a dining program. I just thought it sounded a bit odd at first. The site looks legit and all but I am still going to pass as I do not want texts every week.

Register a card you are not going to use frequently. Figure everyone here has a stack an inch or two thick ;)

I'm wondering if I can just use this with my Google Voice number, then set it up to automatically route the texts to my trash folder there?

    Hmmm, worth a try.

    Hi All
The reason Hilton is doing this is quite clear. And in their disclosures
    Read The Fine Print!
In taking the bonus points from their offer you give up your right to ALL privacy.
You are authorizing Hilton to have direct access to your spending behavior on your Visa card
They can then turn around and use that for their own internal marketing purposes
Or turn around and sell that information for $$$$ >its matter of how you value your privacy

Absolutely. I saw that. They can know everything about the two or so purchases I'll make before closing this particular VISA account :D

I am pretty sure that it is still Visa doing it, not Hilton.

Also, you can opt-out after you got your points and be done or like already mentioned, use a card you don't use. There appears to be much worrying about nothing.

I am wondering what is the best way to maximize this deal. I have 4 cell phones and a stash of visa cards but only 2 Hhonors accounts and don't want to create new HHonors accounts. If I register 3 cards each with 2 cell phones I am thinking I should be able to get 1000 + 3 x 4000 per HHonors account. Do you think that is possible or it will be only 5K per account. Also, since I don't want too many stays on the non-Diamond account I could easilt make one stay with non-diamond account and split the charge on 3 diff visa for the same stay.

I also tried to use my Google Voice number and it didn't work. Peculiar. Anyone know why it would be treated differently than my cell phone number?

Google Voice number is not a true mobile number. It is more like a landline number that you can forward to any other number. That is probably why it cannot be used to subscribe for mobile text alerts.

PS Could not register my Tripit alerts to Google Voice number either. :(

I seem to recall having problems with another service (FB?) that wanted to validate my account via text to my Google Voice number.

I've also had problems using my Google Voice number to receive "verification" SMS/text messages. Not just for this promo, but for many other sites as well. It just doesn't seem to work for this purpose.

Is it only for US mobile phone numbers? Anyone try using a phone no. from Europe?

    Thanks in advance.
