so you get AA vs SPG.

Wonder if it still counts as a stay/night for SPG

Yes. As long as the rate booked is an "eligible" rate, you can choose to earn miles with various carriers or Starpoints. That choice does not affect stay or night credits. Many people make a habit of collecting Starpoints, but switching to airline miles if there is an attractive promo. It has been, historically, easier to opt into Airline Direct Deposit than out of it. In the past, in any case, you could opt in online but had to call to revert to earning Starpoints. Not sure if this is the case still, but you can switch back and forth at will. But wait for the stay to post if you want the miles, and then switch back. It can be problematic only if you have close stays that you want to earn a different currency from. (For instance, if you have a July 1 Aloft stay for which you'd like to earn airline miles, followed by a couple of nights at a resort that you really want Starpoints for, it can be tricky to switch the earning style back to Starpoints in time.)

You can always choose miles rather than points, but when there's a bonus such as this one, the rates might also be inflated, so check carefully to make sure the 1,000 miles is worth any premium in rate.

It hits your SPG account first, so yes...as long as the rate is eligible.

This promo with AA seems a bit strange given the close Crossover relationship between SPG and DL IMO but I guess polygamy can be a good thing (for us).

Dumb question, but does the 50% elite bonus applies to AA miles? Haha :)

They are transferred along with regular earnings and any bonus points that simultaneously are posted with the stay credit.

Any bonuses that come after the stay credit are not transferred, however.

personally i'd only use it on one night stays...but why would you stay multiple nights anyways since most of the locations are by airports? ;)
