Spirit promo: Cheapest fares earn bonus miles
Spirit Airlines is the latest airline to try doling out frequent-flier miles based on the fare a customer pays. But the move -- in effect only for August -- is the reverse of what most U.S. airlines have done in recent years.
In its month-long promotion, the self-described “ultra” low-cost carrier is awarding bonus miles to customers who’ve booked its cheapest fares.
Spirit is using the promotion to thumb its nose at more-traditional rivals that have done away with distance-based mileage-earning in favor of fare-based earning. The pricier the fare, the more miles a customer earns.
