I first came across this restaurant in 1989, and every time I go back to Paris, I make a return visit. I always make friends there - it's hard not to with a live guitarrist, self-serve wine from barrels, a hearty basket of whole vegetables for you to make your own salad, plenty of self-serve charcuterie and cheeses, and a made to order meat dish.
The restaurant itself reminds me of a viking cave, with its stone walls, open-hearth roasting spit, and general unpretentious and casual atmosphere.
A great time will be had, and the fact that its slightly off the beaten path on Iles St. Louis (yet walking distance from Notre Dame and Saint Chappelle) makes this a great find, IMHO.
Will try to check this one out plus some of Gary's choices too when we head there in early March on our "Norwegian" tickets. Of course serendipity is always a fun way to find places too.
